The Most Spectacular Course in the Caribbean
Punta Espada Golf Club is not just a golf course — it is one of those rare places where the sport meets pure spectacle. Designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened in 2006 within the exclusive Cap Cana resort community, the course winds along dramatic limestone cliffs before descending to a stretch of eight holes that run directly along the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea.
The final six holes are what golfers talk about for years. Standing on the tee box of hole 13 with the Atlantic in front of you, wind coming off the water, the ocean crashing against the rocks below — no photograph does it justice. You have to be there. Our clients who have played Punta Espada consistently describe it as the single best round of golf they have ever played, regardless of their score.
The course has hosted multiple PGA Tour Latin America events and is the permanent home of the Cap Cana Championship. Walking the same fairways as PGA Tour professionals, on a course where a Nicklaus design team spent years shaping limestone cliffs into perfect risk-reward decisions, is an experience that belongs on every serious golfer's bucket list.

Practical Information
Dress code: Collared shirt required. No denim, no athletic shorts. Soft spikes only on the course. The clubhouse maintains strict standards — pack accordingly.
Best time to play: Early morning tee times (7:00–8:30am) offer the calmest conditions and the best light for photography. The ocean wind picks up significantly in the afternoon and can affect club selection by 1–2 clubs on exposed holes.
Pace of play: Plan for 4.5 to 5 hours. The oceanfront stretch slows naturally as players stop to take it all in. It is not a course you rush. Bring extra balls — the ocean eats at least two per round for most players.
Handicap recommendation: Playable by all skill levels, but players with handicaps above 28 may find the oceanfront holes challenging in windy conditions. Tees are available for all levels, and our concierge will recommend the right tee box for your game.
Photography: This is one of the most photographable courses in the world. Our in-house photography service captures the signature moments — the tee box over the ocean, the approach to 18, the post-round cigar at the clubhouse. Photos delivered within 48 hours.
Getting to Punta Espada
Punta Espada is located within Cap Cana, approximately 35 minutes from Punta Cana International Airport. The Cap Cana gate requires access credentials — guests arriving independently without a confirmed booking or resident access have been turned away at the gate. When you book through Dominican Golf Concierge, your vehicle and your names are registered at the gate in advance. We handle the access. You walk straight through.
If you are staying in Bávaro or Punta Cana, the drive is approximately 40 minutes. If you are staying within Cap Cana itself (Sanctuary, Caleton Club), the course is 5–10 minutes from most properties.
